12 Tips for Writing Well
Soul Wings Press - Typewriter

1.  Write as you speak.

2.  Tell your story as fast as you can. Include every detail.

3.  Think about your readers. Who are they? How will they react?

4.  Avoid excessive use of adjectives and adverbs; trust the precision of your nouns

and verbs. Avoid the passive voice and clichés.

5.  Be interesting with every sentence. Be brief

6.  The opening paragraph, sentence, line, phrase sets the tone. The beginning is the most

important part of the work.

7.  The first duty of a writer is to entertain. Readers lose interest with too much exposition and

abstract philosophy. They want stories. While they wish to be entertained, they'll feel cheated if, by the end, you haven't taught them something.

8.  Story is more important than anything. Readers care a lot less about craft than content. The question they ask isn't "How accomplished is the writer?" but "How good is the story?"

9.  Write toward a climax. This also applies to paragraphs and chapters.

10.  Provide the reader with a sense of closure. The last sentences of the piece should echo

something that happened at the beginning. Life comes full circle...

11.  By the end of the work the conflict should reach some satisfactory resolution.

It doesn't have to be a "happily ever after," but something important should be

accomplished.

12.  Revise, revise. You never, ever get it on the first try. Art shows up in the rewriting.

Soul Wings Press - TypewriterABOUT YOUR ANGEL ANTHOLOGY COORDINATOR
Sophia Fairchild a published author, professional editor, writing-coach and publisher. It is

her joy to help writers find their own voice, and to stand in their power as the Lightworkers they are in truth! http://soul-wings.com/index_files/page0010.html

ABOUT PARTICIPATING IN AN ANTHOLOGY

One of the really helpful things about writing with a group of other spiritual writers is that you're more easily able

to let go of procrastination or "writer's block." The creative and supportive energy of the group helps you to

become highly motivated to focus on your writing goals, organize your time and thoughts and get your words onto

the printed page!

When you become part of a team of authors writing the same book, it's not quite as intimidating as being faced

with writing a whole book by yourself. And there's a special kind of magic that happens when Lightworkers get together to collaborate on a book project - the whole always seems to be greater than the sum of its parts!
